Water Feature Installation in Orange County
At Millennium Construction, we design and build custom waterfalls, fountains, and pondless features integrated into pools and hardscape, with plumbing, pumps, and electrical planned in from the start. One in-house team has handled this work across Orange County since 2002.
- Recirculating, so far less water than it looks
- Built into the pool or wall, not set on top
- Family-owned since 2002, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating
Understanding Water Feature Construction
A water feature is a plumbing and electrical system wrapped in masonry, and the visible part is the smallest part of it. Basin volume, pump sizing, pipe runs, autofill, overflow, and access for service all have to be right, and the feature has to be positioned where the sound reaches the seating rather than where it happens to look good in a rendering.
Our clients are not adding a fountain. They are adding the sound that makes a backyard feel separate from the street, and placement is what decides whether that works.

Our Water Feature Services

Pool Waterfalls, Sheer Descents and Spillways
Water features built into raised bond beams, spa spillways and pool walls, sharing the pool plumbing and equipment rather than running a separate system. This is by far the most efficient way to add moving water to a backyard, and it is dramatically cheaper during pool construction or a pool remodel than afterward.

Custom Rock and Masonry Waterfalls
Waterfalls built in natural stone or cast masonry, scaled and detailed to the yard rather than dropped in as a feature. Height, drop, and flow rate determine the sound as much as the appearance, and both are set during design against how far the sound needs to carry.

Pondless Waterfalls and Streams
Recirculating waterfalls and streams that disappear into a hidden basin rather than an open pond. No standing water means no algae management and no safety concern with small children, which makes this the option most families end up choosing.

Fountains and Urn Features
Freestanding and wall-mounted fountains, spillway urns and bubbling boulders, plumbed with autofill and set on proper footings. These suit courtyards, entries and side yards where a full waterfall would be out of scale.

Ponds and Decorative Basins
Lined ponds and formal basins with the filtration, circulation and access needed to keep them clear. Ponds carry real ongoing maintenance, and we are direct about that before you commit to one.

Fire and Water Combinations
Fire bowls on spillways, flame above sheer descents, and combined elements built into pool walls. Because gas, plumbing, and electrical share the same runs, these are far simpler to build as one scope than to add in stages.
Our Water Feature Build Process
Step 1 - Site Visit and Placement
We walk the space to establish where the feature belongs relative to seating, the house, and the pool, and how far the sound needs to travel. Power and water access, grade, and where a hidden basin or equipment can sit are all assessed here.
Step 2 - Design and 3D Rendering
Our in-house design team develops the feature in 2D and 3D, covering height, drop, width, stone or finish, and how it meets the surrounding wall, pool, or planting. Scale is the hardest thing to judge from a plan and the easiest thing to get wrong.
Step 3 - Flow, Pump and Material Selection
We size the pump and basin to the flow rate the look and sound require, then select stone, tile, or finish. Flow rate is a design decision, not a default, since the same waterfall at two different rates produces two very different sounds.
Step 4 - Permitting, Plumbing and Electrical Rough-In
Electrical work requires permits and inspection, and requirements vary by city. We prepare and submit plans, coordinate with your Orange County jurisdiction, and run plumbing, autofill, overflow, and electrical before any masonry goes up.
Step 5 - Basin, Masonry and Finish
Basin and structure are built, waterproofed, and plumbed, then stone or finish is applied, and the equipment is set with service access maintained. Access is designed in, because a pump that cannot be reached is a pump that will not be maintained.
Step 6 - Startup, Walkthrough and Handoff
We fill and commission the system, tune flow and lighting, walk you through operation, cleaning and winter care, and complete the punch list. We go through your warranty documentation with you at handoff.
Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Millennium Construction
Water features fail in predictable ways. The pump is undersized and the waterfall trickles. The basin loses more to splash and evaporation than the autofill was built for. The equipment ends up somewhere nobody can reach it, so it never gets serviced, and the feature is switched off within two years. Every one of those is decided before the stone goes on.
Sized for the Sound You Actually Want
Flow rate, drop height, and basin volume are specified against how the feature should sound from where you sit, not chosen from a standard detail. This is the difference between a waterfall that masks street noise and one that is barely audible from the patio.
Built Into the Structure
Features are constructed as part of the wall, pool, or hardscape they belong to, on proper footings and waterproofed assemblies. Units set on top of finished surfaces move, leak, and always look added.
Serviceable by Design
Pumps, valves and equipment are placed where they can actually be reached and worked on. A feature that is difficult to service stops being used, which is the most common reason a working water feature goes quiet.
Efficient With Water
These are recirculating systems, and a well-built one uses far less water than its appearance suggests. Basin sizing, splash control, and autofill are designed, so the feature is sustainable to run in Southern California rather than something you feel guilty switching on.

“A few years ago, we hired Millennium Construction to re-model our old, brick-paved backyard and pool area. We had a vision of what we wanted, and Eddie and his crew took it a step farther. They showed us beautiful 3-D renderings of what they had envisioned, and it was a beautiful makeover…”
“Millennium did an outstanding job on our new hardscape and porch replacement! A complex drainage system was also installed. Eddie (the boss) was very accessible. Their staff were talented craftsmen and very fine people…”
Frequently Asked Questions
How much water does a water feature actually use?
Far less than most people assume. These are recirculating systems, so the only real loss is evaporation and splash, topped up by an autofill. A properly sized basin with splash controlled at the design stage uses a small fraction of what an equivalent area of lawn would.
What is a pondless waterfall?
A recirculating waterfall or stream where the water disappears into a gravel-filled basin hidden below grade rather than collecting in an open pond. There is no standing water, which removes the algae management and the safety concern with small children. It is the option most families with young kids end up choosing.
Can a water feature be added to my existing pool?
Often yes. Sheer descents, spillways, and raised-wall waterfalls can frequently be added to an existing pool, though it depends on the wall structure and whether plumbing can be run without demolishing finished decking. It is considerably simpler and cheaper during a pool remodel, when the area is already open.
How much maintenance does a water feature need?
It depends on the type. Pondless features and pool-integrated features need very little beyond periodic cleaning and occasional pump service. Open ponds carry real ongoing maintenance, including filtration, water chemistry, and algae control, which is why we are direct about that before you choose one.
Will it be loud enough to cover street noise?
That is a design question we answer during planning rather than after installation. Flow rate, drop height, and how close the feature sits to your seating all determine what you hear. If masking traffic noise is the goal, tell us at the site visit, because it changes the sizing.
Do water features require permits?
Electrical work typically does, and requirements vary by city across Orange County. Features integrated into pools fall under the pool permitting. We prepare and submit plans and coordinate with your jurisdiction as part of the project.
Are you licensed and bonded?
Yes. Millennium Construction holds an active California contractor license 804132, covering general building, swimming pool, concrete, masonry, and landscaping work, and carries a contractor’s bond. We have been BBB Accredited since 2014 and hold an A+ rating. Pumps, lighting, and equipment carry their own manufacturer warranties, and we go through those along with your contract warranty terms at startup.
