Understanding Pool Construction

A pool is the single largest structure most homeowners will ever put in their yard, and it dictates everything built around it. We design and construct the full scope, excavation, shell, plumbing and equipment, decking, drainage, and the surrounding hardscape, to the same structural standards and in-house accountability we bring to every remodel we take on.

Our clients are not buying a pool in isolation. They are building the backyard it sits in, and that is exactly what we design and deliver.

Serving Orange County and Surrounding Areas

Millennium Construction is based in Newport Beach and builds throughout Orange County. Staying within one county means our crews know the local permitting offices, the site conditions, and the architectural styles that define each community. Our Pool Construction Services

Pool Construction

Custom Swimming Pool Design and Construction

Pools designed around your lot, your grade, and how you actually plan to use the water, whether that is lap swimming, entertaining, or a shallow lounging shelf for grandkids. Shape, depth profile, finish, and coping are developed in 3D against the rest of the yard before excavation begins.

Pool Construction

Spas and Water Features

Attached and freestanding spas, raised walls, sheer descents, waterfalls and fire-and-water elements. These are planned into the plumbing and equipment scope from the start, which is what keeps the equipment pad correctly sized and the runs efficient.

Pool Construction

Pool Decking and Surrounds

Pavers, concrete and stone decking with the slope, drainage and expansion detailing worked out before the surface goes down. Deck material choice affects heat underfoot, slip resistance, and how the pool reads against the house, and we walk you through those trade-offs rather than defaulting to one product.

Pool Construction

Equipment, Automation and Efficiency

Variable-speed pumps, filtration, heating, sanitization, and automation specified for the actual volume and turnover of your pool. Equipment sizing is where operating cost is decided, and undersizing to hit a lower bid number is paid back every month afterward.

Integrated Backyard Design

This is where a design-build contractor differs from a pool-only builder. We design the pool alongside the outdoor kitchen, covered patio, fire features, hardscape, and planting, so grades, materials, and sightlines resolve as one plan instead of being reconciled after the pool is already in the ground.

Pool Remodeling and Resurfacing

For homeowners with an existing pool, we handle resurfacing, tile and coping replacement, equipment upgrades, and full pool area renovations. In many cases, remodeling an existing pool and rebuilding the space around it delivers more than starting over.

Our Pool Construction Process

Step 1 - Site Visit and Feasibility

We walk the property to assess grade, soil, setbacks, access for excavation equipment, utility locations, and how the pool will relate to the house and the rest of the yard. Access is often the deciding constraint on Orange County lots, and it is better understood before design than after.

Step 2 - Design and 3D Rendering

Our in-house design team develops the pool and the surrounding space in 2D and 3D, covering shape, depth, finishes, decking, water features, and how it all connects to the rest of the backyard. You approve the design in context before engineering begins.

Step 3 - Engineering, Permitting and Approvals

Structural engineering, plans, and permit submission(s) are coordinated with your Orange County jurisdiction, along with any HOA approvals. Requirements vary meaningfully by city, and we identify them during design rather than mid-project.

Step 4 - Excavation, Steel and Shell

Layout, excavation, steel placement, plumbing and electrical rough-in, then the shell. Each stage is inspected before the next begins, which is the part of pool construction that cannot be rushed or revisited later.

Step 5 - Decking, Finishes and Equipment

Tile, coping, interior finish, decking, and the surrounding hardscape are completed, and the equipment pad is set, plumbed, and wired. Because we build the surrounding space too, the deck and yard finish out as one continuous scope rather than a separate mobilization.

Step 6 - Startup, Walkthrough and Warranty

We fill and start the pool, balance the water, walk you through equipment operation and maintenance, and complete the punch list. Our construction work is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Millennium Construction

Most pool companies build the pool and hand you a dirt yard with a nice hole in it. Coordinating the deck, the kitchen, the drainage, and the planting afterward becomes your problem, usually with a second contractor who inherits someone else’s decisions. Millennium designs and builds all of it.

The Pool and the Backyard, One Design

We are a design-build remodeling contractor that builds pools, not a pool company that subs out everything else. The deck, hardscape, kitchen, fire features, and planting are drawn with the pool, so grades and materials resolve on paper instead of on site.

Licensed for the Work

We hold five CSLB license classifications, including C-53, the swimming pool contractor license, alongside B, C-8, C-29, and C-27. Coverage includes $1,000,000 in general liability and workers' compensation, backed by an A+ BBB rating and a perfect CSLB record.

See It Before You Build It

Every pool is developed through 2D and 3D renderings covering shape, depth, finishes, decking, and the surrounding space. Revisions happen on screen, where they cost nothing but time.

One Point of Accountability

One team and one point of contact from the first consultation through startup. No handoff between a pool builder, a hardscape crew, and a landscaper who have never worked together.

Built for Southern California

Finishes, decking, and equipment have to hold up through year-round sun, coastal air, and real water-efficiency considerations. We specify for long-term performance and operating cost, not just the install-day appearance.

A Family-Owned Company That Stays

Founded in 2002 and family-owned since. Much of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients, homeowners who brought us back for a second and third project.

What Our Clients Say

He really listened and incorporated everything that I wanted into the design and added excellent details and adjustments that only an experienced contractor that really cared about quality and functionality would do…”

Henson, V.

“A few years ago, we hired Millennium Construction to re-model our old, brick-paved backyard and pool area. We had a vision of what we wanted, and Eddie and his crew took it a step farther. They showed us beautiful 3-D renderings of what they had envisioned, and it was a beautiful makeover…”

Leslie Bird

“Millennium did an outstanding job on our new hardscape and porch replacement! A complex drainage system was also installed. Eddie (the boss) was very accessible. Their staff were talented craftsmen and very fine people…”

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a licensed pool contractor?

Yes. We hold a C-53 swimming pool contractor license from the CSLB, one of five classifications we carry along with B, C-8, C-29, and C-27. We also carry $1,000,000 in general liability and workers’ compensation coverage and maintain a perfect CSLB record.

Because the pool is rarely the whole project. Decking, drainage, hardscape, an outdoor kitchen and planting all have to work with it, and when those are handled by separate contractors after the pool is in the ground, the grades and materials get reconciled on site rather than on paper. We design and build all of it as one scope.

Often yes, though slope, soil, setbacks, and equipment access all factor in and sometimes require retaining walls or engineering that changes the budget. We assess feasibility during the site visit and tell you honestly what your lot can support before you invest in design.

Pools require structural engineering, plans and permits, and requirements vary by city across Orange County. HOA approval is often needed as well. We prepare and submit plans and coordinate with your jurisdiction as part of the project.

The timeline depends on scope, site access, engineering, permitting, and inspection scheduling, so we will not quote a schedule before seeing your property. We will give you a realistic timeline once the design is approved and permits are in motion, and keep you updated if anything changes.

It depends on the shell condition, the layout, and what is not working. In many cases, resurfacing, replacing tile and coping, upgrading equipment, and rebuilding the space around the pool delivers the result you want for considerably less than starting over. We will tell you which one your project actually calls for.

Our construction work is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty. Pool equipment carries its own manufacturer warranties, which we walk you through at startup along with operation and maintenance.
