Understanding Fire Feature Construction
A built-in fire feature is custom masonry integrated with a permitted fuel system, making it a complete structural construction project rather than a standalone retail purchase. Footings, framing, non-combustible materials, burner sizing, gas supply, ignition, and clearances all have to be right, and the finished piece has to sit where the seating and circulation already want it to be.

Custom Built-In Fire Pits
Masonry fire pits built on proper footings and clad to match the surrounding hardscape, in round, square, linear, or seat-height configurations. Sizing matters more than most homeowners expect, since a pit too large pushes seating out of conversational range and one too small disappears into a wide patio.
Outdoor Fireplaces
Full masonry fireplaces with fireboxes, chimneys, hearths, and mantels, built as the vertical anchor of a patio or outdoor room. A fireplace creates a wall and a focal point at once, which makes it useful for defining an outdoor space that otherwise has no edges.
Fire Bowls, Fire and Water Features

Step 1 - Site Visit and Placement
We walk the space to work out where the feature belongs relative to seating, the house, prevailing wind, and everything else already in the yard. Gas supply location and capacity, clearances to structures and overhead obstructions, are all assessed here.
Step 2 - Design and 3D Rendering
Our in-house design team develops the feature in 2D and 3D, covering size, height, cladding, seating relationship, and how it sits against the surrounding hardscape. Proportion is difficult to judge from a plan and obvious in a rendering.
Step 3 - Material and Fuel System Selection
We walk you through stone, tile, stucco, and concrete cladding along with burner type, media, ignition, and control options. Natural gas or propane, manual or electronic ignition, and remote or switch control are decided here because they drive the rough-in.
Step 4 - Permitting and Gas Rough-In
Gas and electrical work requires permits and inspection, and requirements vary by city. We prepare and submit plans, coordinate with your Orange County jurisdiction, and run and inspect the gas supply and electrical before masonry begins.
Step 5 - Footings, Masonry and Cladding
Footings are poured, the structure is framed or block-laid with non-combustible materials, then burner, media, and cladding are installed. Cladding is detailed to match the surrounding hardscape rather than finished as a standalone object.
Step 6 - Testing, Walkthrough and Warranty
We test ignition, flame, controls, and shutoffs, walk you through operation and seasonal care, and complete the punch list. Our construction work is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.
