At Millennium Construction, we design and install complete residential landscapes, from planting and irrigation to lighting and drought-tolerant alternatives. One in-house design-build team handles it all, licensed C-27 for landscaping.
- Your landscape rendered in 2D and 3D, not described from a plant list
- Planting and irrigation designed for Southern California water realities
- Family-owned since 2002, backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty
Understanding Landscape Design and Installation
Landscape is the last layer to go in and the only one that keeps changing after the crews leave. Planting, irrigation, grading, and lighting have to be designed against the mature size of what you plant, the water it will need in ten years, and the hardscape it grows up against, rather than against how the yard looks the week it is installed.
Our clients are not just filling in the beds. They are finishing the property everything else was built for, and this is the layer that makes the rest of it look intentional.

Our Landscape Design and Installation Services

Landscape Design and 3D Planning
Full planting plans developed in 2D and 3D alongside the hardscape, structures, and grading rather than after them. Seeing planting rendered at mature size is what prevents the two most common outcomes: a yard that looks sparse for five years or one that is overgrown and crowding the walkways in three.

Planting Design and Installation
Trees, shrubs, grasses, and groundcover are selected for sun exposure, soil, coastal air, and how much maintenance you actually want to do. Plant selection is a maintenance decision as much as an aesthetic one, and we are direct about what a given palette will ask of you.

Irrigation and Water Efficiency
Drip systems, zoned valves, smart controllers, and pressure regulation are designed around the planting rather than retrofitted to it. Zoning by water need instead of by convenience is what keeps one part of a yard from being overwatered to keep another alive.

Drought-Tolerant and Native Landscapes
Mediterranean, native, and low-water palettes suited to Southern California conditions. These landscapes are not a compromise on appearance, and designed properly, they carry more year-round structure and color than a lawn does while asking for a fraction of the water.

Landscape Lighting
Path, uplighting, wash, and accent lighting on low-voltage systems, laid out during design, so conduit runs go in before planting and paving. Lighting is what makes a landscape usable and visible after dark, and it is far cheaper to install than to add later.

Lawn Alternatives and Turf
Reduced lawn areas, groundcover alternatives, and artificial turf where a durable green surface is wanted without the water and upkeep. We help you weigh where real lawn still earns its place and where it does not.
Our Landscape Design and Installation Process
Step 1 - Site Visit and Conditions Assessment
We walk the property to assess sun and shade patterns, soil, existing drainage, mature trees worth keeping, and how you actually move through and use the space. Microclimates within a single Orange County yard vary more than most homeowners expect, and they drive the planting plan.
Step 2 - Design and 3D Rendering
Our in-house design team develops the landscape in 2D and 3D, covering planting layout, bed shapes, irrigation zones, lighting, and how everything meets the hardscape. Planting is shown at mature size so you are approving the yard you will have, not the one that arrives on the truck.
Step 3 - Plant Palette and Material Selection
We walk you through the plant palette, groundcover, mulch, and lighting fixtures with recommendations based on exposure, water use, and maintenance. This is where the long-term care requirements of the yard are actually decided.
Step 4 - Grading, Drainage and Soil Preparation
Grading, drainage, and soil amendment are completed before anything is planted. Poor drainage kills more installed landscape than poor plant selection does, and neither is correctable once the beds are full.
Step 5 - Irrigation, Lighting and Planting
Irrigation lines and low-voltage lighting conduit go in, then trees, shrubs, groundcover, and mulch. Trees and structural plants are placed first so everything else is arranged around them rather than the reverse.
Step 6 - Walkthrough, Care Plan and Warranty
We walk the finished landscape with you, set and explain the irrigation controller and lighting, and go through what each area needs through its first year. Our installation work is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty.
Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Millennium Construction
Landscape is usually the last thing planned and the first thing to look wrong. Beds get filled after the paving is set, irrigation gets run wherever it fits, and lighting is added a year later by trenching through what was just installed. Sequenced that way, a landscape is always working around decisions it had no part in.
Designed With the Hardscape, Not After It
Because we build the patios, walls, pools, and structures too, planting beds, irrigation, and lighting are laid out alongside them. Conduit and lines go in before paving rather than through it, and bed shapes respond to the built elements instead of filling whatever is left over.
Planned at Mature Size
We render planting at what it will become, not what arrives from the nursery. That is the difference between a landscape that settles into itself over five years and one that has to be thinned, moved, or torn out.
Built Around Water Reality
Southern California water is a design constraint, not an afterthought. Zoning, drip systems, smart controllers, and plant palettes are chosen so the yard is sustainable to run, not just affordable to install.
C-27 Licensed for Landscape Work
We hold five CSLB classifications, including C-27, the landscaping contractor license, alongside B, C-53, C-8, and C-29. Coverage includes $1,000,000 in general liability and workers' compensation, with an A+ BBB rating and a perfect CSLB record.
One Team for the Entire Property
Design, hardscape, structures, pools, and planting handled by one company on one schedule. There is no landscape crew arriving to interpret someone else's drawings months after the build work was finished.
Referred, and Hired Again
Family-owned since 2002 with a boutique-scale team. Much of our work comes from referrals and returning clients, which is the reference that matters on a yard judged several growing seasons from now.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a landscape design and installation project?
A full project covers site assessment, a planting plan developed in 2D and 3D, grading and drainage, soil preparation, irrigation, low-voltage lighting, and installation of trees, shrubs, groundcover, and mulch. Hardscape, structures, and turf are handled as related services and are commonly designed alongside the planting.
Do I need landscape design if I already have hardscape in place?
Yes, and it is a common starting point. Working around existing paving and walls limits where irrigation and lighting can run, so we assess what is already there and design the planting to work with it. If anything does need to be cut, we tell you before you commit rather than after.
Will a drought-tolerant landscape look bare?
Not if it is designed well. Mediterranean and native palettes carry structure, texture, and year-round color that a lawn does not, and they hold their appearance through the dry months when turf struggles. The bare look people associate with low-water yards usually comes from underplanting, not from the plant choices.
How much maintenance will my landscape need?
That depends almost entirely on the palette selected, which is why we treat plant selection as a maintenance decision during design. We will be direct about what a given plan will ask of you and adjust the palette if the answer is more than you want.
Do you handle irrigation and lighting, or just planting?
Both. Irrigation zoning, drip systems, smart controllers, and low-voltage lighting are designed with the planting and installed as part of the project. Running conduit and lines before paving and planting is far cheaper than adding them afterward.
How long does a landscape installation take?
It depends on scope, whether grading and drainage work is needed, plant availability, and whether hardscape is part of the project, so we will not quote a schedule before seeing the property. We give you a realistic timeline once the design and plant palette are set.
What warranty coverage applies?
Our installation work is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty. Plant material is living, and its survival depends heavily on care and watering after installation, so plant warranty terms are handled separately.

Ready to Finish the Property?
Paving and structures give a property its shape. Planting, irrigation, and light are what make it feel finished, and they only work when designed alongside everything else rather than fitted in afterward. Millennium Construction has been designing and installing landscapes across Orange County since 2002, C-27 licensed and family-owned.
