Understanding Outdoor Kitchen Construction

An outdoor kitchen is permanent construction, not an appliance purchase, and we build it that way. We design and construct the full assembly, structural framing, masonry, countertops, cabinetry, gas, water, and electrical, to the same standards and in-house accountability we bring to every remodel we take on.

We design and deliver complete outdoor living spaces, not just grills.

Serving Orange County and Surrounding Areas

Millennium Construction is based in Newport Beach and builds throughout Orange County. Staying within one county means our crews know the local permitting offices, the site conditions, and the architectural styles that define each community. If you do not see your area listed, please reach out, and we will confirm availability.

Our Outdoor Kitchen Services

Built-In Grills and Cooking Stations

We build the cooking core around how you actually cook, whether that is a single high-output grill or a full station with a side burner, smoker, pizza oven, and warming drawers. Appliance cutouts, ventilation clearances, and gas sizing are specified during design so everything fits and vents correctly the first time.

Custom BBQ Islands and Bar Seating

Islands are built as permanent masonry structures with proper footings, not prefabricated shells set on a slab. We size overhangs, counter heights, and seating, so guests can sit with the cook instead of behind them, which is the difference between a kitchen that gets used and one that goes unused.

Outdoor Kitchen Contractors

Countertops, Cladding and Finishes

Granite, porcelain, concrete and stone veneer selected for year-round sun and coastal air rather than showroom appearance alone. We walk you through how each surface handles heat, staining and salt exposure, so the finish still looks right in year ten.

Outdoor Kitchen Contractors

Refrigeration, Storage and Utilities

Under-counter refrigeration, ice makers, generators, sinks, drawers and weatherproof cabinetry, with the gas, water, drainage and electrical runs planned into the build. Utility routing is the part homeowners never see and the part that costs the most to add later.

Outdoor Kitchen Contractors

Shade, Cover and Lighting

Pergolas, covered structures, task lighting, and heaters that make the kitchen usable in July afternoons and January evenings alike. We handle the structural engineering and permitting these overhead builds require.

Integration With the Rest of the Backyard

An outdoor kitchen rarely stands alone. We tie it into the surrounding hardscape, dining area, fire features, and pool deck so grades, materials, and sightlines line up instead of meeting at an awkward seam.

Our Outdoor Kitchen Build Process

Step 1 - Site Visit and Consultation

We walk the space with you to understand how you cook, how you entertain, and how many people you host. Gas line capacity, electrical availability, water and drainage access, prevailing wind, and sightlines from the house all get assessed here.

Step 2 - Layout and 3D Design

Our in-house design team develops the kitchen in 2D and 3D, covering island configuration, appliance placement, counter heights, seating, and finishes. You see the layout in context and approve it before anything is ordered or cut.

Step 3 - Appliance and Material Selection

We walk you through grills, refrigeration, countertops, and cladding with recommendations based on durability and performance in Southern California conditions. Appliance specs are locked in at this stage because they drive the framing dimensions.

Step 4 - Permitting and Utility Rough-In

We prepare and submit plans and coordinate with your Orange County jurisdiction. Gas, water, drainage, and electrical are run and inspected before any masonry goes up, so nothing has to be opened back up later.

Step 5 - Construction and Finishes

Framing, masonry, countertops, cladding, and appliance installation are completed by our crews under one point of contact. You are kept current on progress, upcoming stages, and anything affecting the schedule.

Step 6 - Final Walkthrough and Warranty

We test every appliance and connection, walk through the finished kitchen with you, and complete the punch list. Your project is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Why Orange County Homeowners Choose Millennium Construction

Plenty of companies will sell you an island and set it on your patio. Far fewer will engineer the footing, run the utilities to code, and make sure the finished kitchen sits right in the space around it. Millennium does.

Built as Permanent Construction

Structural footings, framed and reinforced masonry, and utility runs installed to code. We build outdoor kitchens the way we build everything else, to last decades rather than seasons.

Complete Design-Build Under One Roof

We design and build in-house instead of outsourcing design or subbing out the parts that matter. The person who drew your island is accountable to the person laying the block.

See It Before You Build It

Every kitchen is developed through 2D and 3D renderings covering layout, appliances, counter heights, and finishes. Revisions happen on screen, where they cost nothing but time.

Licensed, Insured and Documented

Five CSLB license classifications (B, C-53, C-8, C-29, C-27), $1,000,000 general liability and workers' compensation coverage, an A+ BBB rating and a perfect CSLB record.

Built for Southern California

Counters, cladding, and stainless components have to hold up through year-round sun and coastal air. We select materials and methods that perform long-term, not just on install day.

A Family-Owned Company That Stays

Founded in 2002 and family-owned since. Much of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients, homeowners who brought us back for a second and third project.

What Our Clients Say

He really listened and incorporated everything that I wanted into the design and added excellent details and adjustments that only an experienced contractor that really cared about quality and functionality would do…”

Henson, V.

“A few years ago, we hired Millennium Construction to re-model our old, brick-paved backyard and pool area. We had a vision of what we wanted, and Eddie and his crew took it a step farther. They showed us beautiful 3-D renderings of what they had envisioned, and it was a beautiful makeover…”

Leslie Bird

“Millennium did an outstanding job on our new hardscape and porch replacement! A complex drainage system was also installed. Eddie (the boss) was very accessible. Their staff were talented craftsmen and very fine people…”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a custom outdoor kitchen?

A typical build includes a structural masonry island, built-in grill and cooking appliances, countertops, weatherproof cabinetry and storage, and the gas, water, drainage, and electrical serving them. Refrigeration, sinks, bar seating, shade structures, and lighting are added based on how you plan to use the space.

Often yes, though it depends on the slab, its thickness and condition, and whether utilities can be reached without tearing up finished surfaces. We assess all of that during the site visit and tell you honestly what the existing hardscape can support.

We walk you through grill, refrigeration, and appliance options and coordinate the specifications with the build. Selections are finalized before construction begins, because cutout dimensions, gas sizing, and ventilation clearances all depend on the specific units chosen. We will confirm how the appliances are sourced and what is included in your scope when we put your proposal together.

Granite, porcelain, and concrete all perform well, but they behave differently under direct sun, heat, and coastal salt air. We go through the trade-offs in staining, fading, heat tolerance, and upkeep so you choose based on how the surface will actually live, not just how it looks in a showroom.

Gas, electrical, plumbing, and any overhead structure typically do, and requirements vary by city. We prepare and submit plans and coordinate with your Orange County jurisdiction as part of the project, identifying what is needed during design rather than mid-construction.

The timeline depends on scope, permitting, and appliance availability, so we will not quote a schedule before seeing your property. We will give you a realistic timeline once the design and selections are set, and keep you updated if anything changes.

Our construction work is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty. Appliances carry their own manufacturer warranties, which we will walk you through at handoff.
